DownloadThe Kings is situated in the old town of Swindon, and offers something for everyone - day or night. With a modern decor in perfect harmony with the Victorian ambience of this grand old building, the comfortable and relaxing accommodation features en suite bedrooms with plenty of benefits. Recently opened Restaurant 20 serves a varied and interesting menu, taking advantage of the freshest seasonal produce sourced locally, delivering the best in modern, European cuisine at lunchtime and dinner. Choose from dishes such as Cornish diver-caught scallops, Brixham seabass, slow-roasted Moroccan lamb tagine or wild mushroom risotto. The Kings is proud of their homemade sausages and cured meats; they also make their own breads and pastries, jams and jellies and, of course, not forgetting their delicious range of unique homemade ice-creams!
At The Kings, the last Friday of every month is ‘The Hustle’, featuring music and hits from the 70s and 80s with resident DJ Tony McClusky plus guest DJ’s throughout the month, such as Paul Lewis, Glyn Prince, Soulful Leo and many others.
We’re delighted to announce that our famous roast beef sandwiches with yorkshire pudding is BACK - just £2.95 fresh from the carvery! Now being served every Friday lunchtime alongside our normal lunch menu - 12 noon to 2.30pm
The Kings’ bar is one large, airy space, where artwork from local and national artists adorn the walls, a Victorian tile mosaic sits underneath a large skylight, where locally produced Arkell’s real ales, a great selection of wine and beer and funky Jazz melodies set the scene for one of Swindon’s great venues.
The Kings is within walking distance of the restaurants, nightlife, and local gardens that make the ‘Old Town’ so special. Parking your car at The Kings couldn’t be easier, with over 40 spaces in our own private car park at the rear. All we ask is that you ask us for a FREE permit when you arrive, otherwise you maybe clamped!
As I walked through reception into The Kings, I was immediately struck by the impressive high ceilings and an abundance of space, particularly in the atrium-style central part of The Kings to which you find yourself drawn, looking up in amazement!
Formerly a bakery complete with its own windmill to the rear, and owned by miller John Godwin, The Kings Arms, as it was known back in 1862, was a hive of activity and served as a Bakehouse, Flourhouse, Baconhouse, Brewhouse, Stables, Outbuildings and Gardens.
It was then rebuilt in 1867, and the Arkell family bought the property 18 years later. The Kings facade has changed little since those days.
Today, Chris Piper, a classically-trained butcher, and Darren Turner, an accomplished chef, own The Kings and they've been extremely busy!
Darren, who's also head chef, launched Restaurant 20 about a year ago providing deliciously enticing, freshly prepared European cuisine, using ingredients sourced locally. Much of their food is prepared, baked and produced in-house... for example, their fabulous bread is freshly prepared and baked on site daily, their amazing sausages are homemade by Chris, and their unqiue, to-die-for, homemade ice creams... well, all I can say is, you've got to try them! On top of all this, they also make their own jams, chutneys and pastries... Darren confirms, "Everything, absolutely everything, is made here on site. We make our own sauces, we cut our own chips, we butcher our own meat, we make our own preserves... there aren't many places that can say that!"
The last Saturday of the month is 'Taster Menu' time, which has become so popular, people are booking their table a month in advance! And then there's their 'Early Bird Dining' menul; perfect if you're planning on going to the theatre! To the rear is a superb enclosed decking area, perfect for summer BBQs and al fresco style dining.
There are 20 bedrooms at The Kings, all beautifully refurbished to a high standard inclusive of crisp linen, en suite bathrooms, tea & coffee facilities, luxury toiletries, free Wi-Fi and more.
If you're planning a function, wedding, business conference, party or anything else, then you won't go wrong with The Kings. There are two function rooms, plus Restaurant 20. The Lounge is perfect for those more intimate functions, holding up to 20 people, whilst Restaurant 20 is more suited to the sit-down gathering, holding up to 40 people. However, the 'jewel in the crown' has to be The Oak Room! Fabulous original oak-panelled walls and floor, impressive stone fireplace, magnificent chandelier and, just off to the side, its own bar! Capable of holding up to 80 people, it is perfect for dances, wedding receptions or even an exhibition.

Being just off the High Street, The Kings is the perfect place to stop and relax with a delicious cafe late, espresso or capuccino in their Coffee Lounge, using Fairtrade coffee from Matthew Algie.
Darren and Chris have created a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere, with superb cuisine, fine wines, luxury accommodation, and a great venue, all situated in the heart of Old Swindon.
