Want to know where Prince Charles gets his fish ‘n chips?
The Fisherman’s Pier Fish and Chip Van serves stupendously good fish and chips in a superb location overlooking Tobermory Bay. After sightseeing round the island or visiting the nearby Tobermory Distillery, this is the perfect place to stop for lunch or supper. Jeanette Gallagher and Jane MacLean are into their second decade of trading and have built up a loyal following of regular customers who come from miles around.
Park up at the Clock Tower or by the lobster and prawn creels on the Pier before ordering your meal, which is freshly prepared in no time. Fish comes straight off the boats and into the van, where it is cooked to order. Come rain or shine, the queues are long but always good-humoured, and there’s plenty of banter from the double act. Fish and chunky-cut chips have never tasted so good.
Article in the Press & Journal (13/06/03) about Price Charles’ visit: “The Prince of Wales gave a fish-and-chip van the royal seal of approval as he paid a visit to Scotland yesterday.” They report that, “The Prince tasted fresh scallops from the Fisherman’s Pier chip van in Tobermory, Mull, and declared them “delicious, before adding that owners Jeanette Gallagher and Jane MacLean were delighted to serve the royal visitor with some local produce.”
The Daily Express also ran the same story that day with the headline, “Supper’s royal seal of approval.”
