Description

Ballater,  well known for its close association with the Royal Family with Balmoral Castle just eight miles away, is the location for this cosy, welcoming café.  Formerly a small railway station that welcomed visiting royals from the 1860s until its closure in 1966, and following major structural restoration, hotelier and railway enthusiast, Nigel Franks, revamped the refreshment rooms and transformed them into an informal restaurant and café, yet stayed true to the spirit of the place. The setting has a period feel, thanks to the fact that many of the original features, such as stunning wood panelling and a smoked-glass ceiling, are still in place.
