Les Routiers partners with the SRA!
Les Routiers UK & Ireland has taken another major step towards making sustainability mainstream in restaurants by signing a partnership deal with The Sustainable Restaurant Association (SRA).
So, what exactly does the famous blue-and-red symbol stand for?
Since it was first seen in Paris in 1935, the sign has traditionally identified hotels, restaurants and bars of individual character, mainly owner managed, offering excellent food, warm hospitality and good value for money.
While the concept of this European brand has evolved with the times, we still hold true to our fundamental principles and we are also committed to promoting many other aspects of good food and hospitality, not least the greater use of local produce as well as regional foods.
In an age of uniformity, fast food and charmless hospitality chains, the members of Les Routiers offer a distinctively different experience. They are passionate about the qualities of their hospitality and service. Properties are inspected prior to joining and must meet our rigorous inspection criteria.
Members are made up of a cross section of establishments from hotels, bed & breakfasts and guesthouses, to country houses and several mansions, not to mention the fine dining restaurants, bistros and cafes. They are all "Best of their kind".
There has never been a more exciting time to travel around the UK. Over the last few years we have seen an explosion of small restaurateurs, hoteliers and food producers along with people running cafes, bed & breakfast accommodation that is a world away from the everyday, the kinds of places that Les Routiers has celebrated for years.
In hotels and B&B's, in fact in any accommodation type we look for individual character and attention to detail from owner managers who believe in good, old-fashioned hospitality. In restaurants, pubs, bars and cafes, we champion dishes done well, that use fresh ingredients sourced, wherever possible locally or regionally. We encourage well-priced and imaginative menus and wine lists that offer selections of good quality wine.
But, in the end, individual quality and value for money are still the fundamental criteria for being awarded a Les Routiers sign. Whether it is a small cafe serving some of the best freshly made sandwiches or a five-star luxury hotel offering first rate facilities, distinctiveness and value for money are the distinctive characteristics of all Les Routiers establishments.. Tourism in Britain has gone through considerable change over the last few years but the independent traveller really has never had it so good.
Check out our accommodation and pre-book online or view our restaurants, pubs and cafes. We will show you some truly great places. We insist on and expect, nothing but the best and our members know that. They, and you, are our judges. Meanwhile, take advantage of what Britain has to offer!
